what's in my cart? vol. 1
everything I've been eyeing online, from a pair of Miu Miu slingbacks to the perfect Reformation cashmere sweater, idling sitting and waiting.
11/16/2023
Greetings my little birds!
Today marks the first of what I hope to be many posts detailing what’s in my shopping cart, or wish list, I should say. If you’re not aware already, I, like many others, suffer from a serious shopping problem, especially for things I don’t really need.
“But you never know, I might actually get invited to go to some fancy Greenwich wedding or soirée in the Hamptons,” or “I’m saving this for so-and-so’s wedding next year in Italy because it totally matches the aesthetic.”
I’m guilty of making up all kinds of excuses to justify my purchases. However, I will argue I’ve gotten a lot better over the years, and I always continue cleaning out my closet. (Shoutout to Depop and Poshmark for kickstarting my successful part-time career in online sales.)
Before we commence, I’d like to clarify just because something is “in my cart” does not necessarily mean there will be a transaction of sorts. If it’s meant to be, it will be. I don’t think it would be financially feasible if I went ahead and purchased everything. Plus, Boetje (my dad), won’t be too pleased.
Henceforth, I am one of the millions of people who will continue to “add to cart” without any further action. Anyway, let’s kick off this list.
Hermès First Derby Shoe
This shoe has been at the top of my wish list for about 1.5 years now. It’s been sold out EVERYWHERE, online and in-stores, in every country I’ve visited recently. (OK, I only checked in five countries, but still.)
But I think the universe loves me. Right before I started this post, I checked online for good measure, and lo and behold, they’re back in stock and in my size. SUBLIME!
Mind you, it is a whopping $1,725. But hey, a girl can dream.
Reformation Clara Cashmere Crew Cardigan
Since I watched Kendall Jenner’s “7 Days, 7 Looks” YouTube segment for Vogue India, I’ve been trying to find the *perfect* red cardigan to sling over my shoulders for a laidback yet effortlessly chic ensemble. I have a feeling Reformation (who, hello, in case anyone hasn’t noticed, recently subtly completely changed their logo?!) always sold this specific sweater and I am just noticing now, but maybe I’m wrong.
Though I have a love-hate relationship with cashmere, I feel like this might be worth it for “the look.” This baby’s $198.
Reformation Regan Knee Boot
Though it may seem like it’s easy to find a great, comfortable while also *flattering* pair of black over-the-knee boots, well, I’m here to tell you that isn’t always true.
I am extremely picky when it comes to my boots. They need to, first of all, be slimming and elongate your legs. They also need to be a material that can sustain any type of everyday weather (obviously, in the case of a snowstorm, do NOT wear these). Additionally, the term “over-the-knee” will vary from person to person. What may hit over-the-knee for me might be a few inches lower (or higher) for another person.
Anyway, I have a good feeling about these, apart from the fact they’re $598.
Reformation Jadey Oversized V-Neck Sweater
If this oversized sweater in this EXACT color is not Taylor Swift folklore-coded, then I don’t know what is.
I will say Reformation knows exactly what it’s doing when it comes to marketing. When I first scrolled past this sweater, that’s all I did — scrolled past it. Then a few days later, the Ref social media team posted Kaia Gerber wearing it.
Now here I am with an additional $298 in my cart.
Miu Miu Brushed Leather Slingbacks with Buckles
Truth be told, I go back and forth on these heels. Sometimes, I love them and think I would get a lot of wear out of them, though other times I feel like I could definitely do without it. Ah, to be a girl.
I guess it’ll continue to hold residence in my cart until further notice (a.k.a. if it sells out or is marked down). Also, the $1,290 price tag isn’t helpful.
AGOLDE Low Rise Baggy Jeans
I’m ashamed to admit I’ve fallen victim to the return of the low-rise bottoms trend, but hey, when if it flatters the body, you gotta do what you gotta do, right?
I’ve purchased a number of low-rise pants and skirts (not shorts though, god forbid) in the last year or two, but I have had very little success finding a good pair of low-rise jeans — and *every* girl can tell you the constant struggle that is finding good denim in general.
I have hopes for this one… Except for the fact that it’s $198.
The Row White Half Moon Shoulder Bag
I don’t have a white handbag, surprisingly. I know, I know, the last thing I, Conchita Widjojo, need is another purse. I’ve seen it on all of my favorite street style icons such as Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber and Emily Ratajkowski, so now I’m convincing myself I need it as well.
I sincerely feel like I’ll use this bag constantly. So, if I use it everyday for a month, it’ll be well worth the investment, right? Girl math.
Plus, for The Row, it seems to be a reasonable enough price. We’ll see if I’m willing to bite the bullet for $1,390.
Rat & Boa Assisi Dress
I’m a huge sucker for form-fitting and ethereal dresses that wrap your body like an island goddess. So when Rat & Boa came out with this print, I immediately put it in my cart… Mentally, at least. It wasn’t until a week or two ago I clicked “Add to Bag.”
The brand has some really nice dresses, which, I personally think, at a price point of $245, is quite reasonable to wear for nicer occasions, even weddings. (Warning: make sure you know exactly how see-through the material is, unless you’re OK with flashing your underwear slash butt. Life is too short, I suppose.)
Danielle Guizio Lleo Satin Mini Dress
I’ve been searching for a flattering long-sleeve, high-neck, backless dress, but so far to no avail. So I hope this Danielle Guizio dress doesn’t disappoint me when I end up purchasing it.
Danielle makes some of the cutest clothes and, so far, she hasn’t let me down. At least 98% of the time. Though at $338, I might need a little more coaxing. (Shameless plug: read my interview with Danielle here.)
Le Monde Béryl Leather-Trim Mesh Mary Jane Ballet Flats
I know… For those who may know me, this choice might be a shock. But with age, our sense of style will continue to evolve with experimentation, right?
Since the mesh Alaïa ballet flats were seen on the likes of Sofia Richie Grainge’s now-famous “GRWM” TikTok videos a few months ago, other aspiring fashion it-girls have gone feral for the exact pair, or a dupe. The original shoe retails for close to $1,000 and is currently sold out, which means a lot of people are searching for similar pairs.
At one point, Source Unknown had a great dupe for the Alaïa pair, though alas, I think they are now sold out.
But I saw these Le Monde Béryl flats on Lucy Williams, who I’ve been following on Instagram for years hence completely trust her with my life. These seem to capture the same vibe, so I think these might deserve a test run, especially at $397, which is less than half the price of the Alaïas. (But if someone knows where I can find the real thing, I’m all ears.)
