january favorites
this month features more espresso colored items, unnecessary lip purchases and a pair of Adidas gazelles because I'm a basic b*tch.
Hola!
Wow, January has really come and gone. It always feels like the fastest yet slowest month all year. But the end of the month means it’s time for me to round up some of my favorite things.
Before we get into it, subscribe if you haven’t already! I’ll make it easy for you.
If you don’t, well, that’s fine, too. But it would mean a whole lot if you did! 💕
Anyway, I’ll keep this brief. This month’s favorites aren’t vastly different from last month’s. I’m still obsessed with this whole “chocolate” or “espresso” color trend and more jeans (as if I needed to add any more to my already large arsenal).
I also fell victim to the “mob wife” faux fur jacket/coat trend and finally hopped on the Tarte Marajuca juicy lip plump bandwagon. Yes, it’s great and worth the hype.
Happy scrolling!
Frame Faux Fur Zip Up Jacket ($383)
I saw a creator on TikTok wear this and I was immediately obsessed. I did a quick Google search and was devastated to find out it was practically sold out everywhere. But if there’s one thing I’m good at, it’s hunting down and sourcing specific items (though obviously I am nowhere near as good as the great Gab Waller). After all, this was one of my many tasks when I interned at Who What Wear for a year.
After about 10 minutes, I discovered the Garmentory had it in stock. It was in a cute, indie store located in Savannah, Ga. Though they only had the medium, I settled for that size anyway knowing I wanted to layer it with other knits and I have broad shoulders from being a swimmer for a decade.
ANYWAY, yes, I love it and will try to wear it whenever and wherever possible.
Minolta Riva Zoom 115 Camera
I’ve been a big fan of 35mm film for a few years now. I even have an Instagram account dedicated to all my photos (shameless plug). Though the last three or so years I’ve mainly been using disposable cameras.
I decided to use my reusable film camera, the Minolta Riva Zoom 115 (circa 2001). The results are obviously similar to those of the disposables, but dare I say, a little better? The quality and color seems more distinct on the Minolta.
I bought mine a year ago on Retro Camera Shop, which offers a wide array of film cameras. But remember, since they’re “vintage” there’s only one of each and they sell out VERY quickly. They’re also based in U.K., so keep note of any shipping, tax and import duties, if it applies. (I linked a similar one.)
Adidas Gazelle Indoor “Bold Orange” Sneakers ($135)
Yes, I fell victim to the Adidas Gazelle sneakers fad. To be fair, I already own a pair of black and white/green Sambas, but I wanted to add a fun color and thought the Gazelle style could do just that for me. These are super cute (and comfortable!) and actually add a great pop of color to your outfit.
AGOLDE Clara Low Rise Baggy Flare ($215)
I have been a big fan of the low-rise trend so far, but only if the pants are baggy and/or wide leg. This, thankfully, was both. I was a bit wary thinking I might look like I’m drowning in them, but then I felt a little vindicated when I saw a post on how to style “puddle jeans” like Margot Robbie. So I thought, OK, so this is actually a trend (lol).
Jenni Kayne Cable Half Zip ($425)
OK, you guys… I understand the Jenni Kayne hype now. I watch plenty of TikToks and YouTube videos where this brand is mentioned and I finally decided to purchase this half zip sweater when they were having their 20% off Christmas promo. I wore it almost every day when I was in Los Angeles (at least when it was considered “cold”).
Warning: it is slightly itchy, so if you can’t stand that, avoid it. There are plenty of other cute options from the brand that are not itchy!
Glossier Ultralip High Shine Lipstick with Hyaluronic Acid in Cachet ($20)
Another brown lip product! Shocker! But really, I love this one. It’s great you can build it, too. So it can be anywhere from a touch of brown on your lips to a darker hue. Again, this would depend on the person and their skin tone.
Tarte Marajuca Juicy Lip Plump in Honeysuckle ($24)
I know I’m not alone when I saw legit a million ads for this every day on my For You Page on TikTok… Anyway, it f*cking worked. I caved and bought it. Though I purchased it in a rather unpopular color, which was this dark brown color and I actually love how it looks layered with the Glossier lipstick. It also has this nice minty feeling on your lips after you apply it.
Apivita Soothing & Moisturizing Toner ($15)
Another thing I don’t normally like to change is my skincare. I have EXTREMELY sensitive skin, especially on my face. (I had a bad bout of rosacea early last year and have since completely switched to a very simple routine.)
My “toner” was usually Paula’s Choice or Bioderma, but I received this from France recently and I’ve been using it every other night. Let me tell you, my skin is *glowing.* It also smells really great, unlike most toners I’ve come across.
Caudalie Eau de Vignes Shower Gel ($11)
(Yes, I’m aware this photo is quite sh*te quality, but it’ll have to do.) THIS IS LEGIT THE BEST SHOWER GEL EVER. I’m not even joking. It’s great for sensitive skin and will make your skin smell extremely refreshing and aromatic. It’s also only $11?!
Westman Atelier Eye Want You Lengthening + Volumizing Clean Mascara ($45)
When it comes to makeup, I’m usually a creature of habit. I will rarely change something in my routine unless it’s mascara, blush or lip products. I absolutely love trying new products in these categories, hence why you’ll see an abundance of them if you ever took a tour of my makeup.
This is great because I love any mascara with a big brush applicator, not to mention a fine one when it combs through my lashes. The big, bright red packaging was also an eye-catcher for me.
