I’m calling it. brown bucket bags are coming back!
I know what you're thinking... what? but believe me, I seriously think these will be one of the big "it" bags this year for spring and summer.
OK, imagine it’s 2016/2017 and bucket bags are all the craze. Well, I have an inkling they’re making comeback, especially for the warmer months ahead.
I know, I know… The “bucket bag” style, at times, reminds me of those boho chic days when dressing like you were at Coachella every day was super in (shudders in embarrassment). But I think this year, they’re returning with a more elevated and timeless quality to them.
The Row, for instance, has a very simple yet chic iteration of a bucket bag (which they call the “Park Small Tote Bag,” and I have been very drawn to it since my friend wore the white one to lunch with me one day.
I also felt a little validated when I saw this photo of Taylor Swift carrying a brown Saint Laurent leather hobo bag (which I feel like have been everywhere) in New York City recently.
If Ms. Taylor Swift is wearing it, then I must be on the right track.
(Plus, I saw a very elegant lady carrying the dark brown suede and shearling version of it the other day and I thought it was so cute, especially for all the winter girlies.)
Swedish influencer Lovisa Barkman uploaded a carousel of photos the other day with a brown Hermès Picotin Lock Gold Clemence (or whatever the heck it’s called — sorry Hermès leather goods is not my forte 🤷🏻♀️) and it looked so cute, it almost convinced me to hop on the Hermès bandwagon (but I probably still won’t).
Anyway, I digress. Whether you believe me or not, I decided to pick out my best options for brown bucket bags. Indulge me, please.
Saint Laurent Le 5 à 7 Leather Hobo Bag ($2,135)
After seeing Taylor Swift wear this, I simply must put it on the list. Plus, it’s actually really cute, versatile and can probably fit a whole bunch of your stuff. You’ll also wear it often, so that price may be justifiable. (Maybe.)
Loewe Gate Pocket Classic Calf Leather Bucket Bag ($850)
If you some something more smaller and more simple, this bag seems like a great option. It will probably not fit much besides a cardholder, a lipstick and maybe your keys, but it might fit a little more than those really mini Chanel or Jacquemus bags that only fit your lipstick.
Chloé Marcie Mini Leather Bucket Bag ($676)
If you want more a casual bag for the warmer months, this crossbody is a great option. The chain makes the bag a little more elevated and feminine.
Oroton Margot Leather Bucket Crossbody Bag ($300)
I saw a girl wear this on her TikTok (I’m easily influenced, in case you couldn’t tell) and I thought the bag was adorable and versatile.
The Row Park Small Tote Bag in Leather ($1,390)
This, for me, is the winner. In the last year, The Row has really taken off. Its ready-to-wear and accessories have completely dominated trends and will probably continue its winning streak in 2024. I just purchased a bag from The Row (the Half Moon in white), so I might wait a while before I think about pulling the trigger on another.
Sézane Farrow Bag ($275)
This might actually a bit big for my liking, but gotta look out for the girls who want a bag big enough to fit all their stuff!
Longchamp Épure XS Crossbody Bag ($360)
OK, hear me out. When we think of Longchamp, most of our minds would immediately think of those basic sorority girls who used the canvas tote bags (in every color of the rainbow) in college to hold their laptops, books and other miscellaneous items. (I was in a sorority, yes, but I never fell victim to these bags or the Tory Burch sandals. If you know, you know.)
However, I gotta hand it to them in the last few years. They’ve really upped their game when it comes to their leather goods and I’ve seen a couple cute Longchamp bags on TikTok. I haven’t seen this Épure style on social media yet, but I know for a fact I’m going to wear this for my next trip to Europe.
